Christian Hildebrandt (born 1967), classical composer and musicologist. Member of the Danish Composers’ Association. In 2000 appointed a two year grant from Danish Arts Council. He was cofounder of the composers’ group KOMVEST, which focuses on choral music. Together with KOMVEST Christian Hildebrandt established the high level project choir Ensemble Vest with whom he produced a series of distinguished live recordings in the years from 1999 to 2007.
Christian Hildebrandt’s work list is dominated by his choral compositions which are performed by notably choirs in Denmark. His choral compositions seem to combine the sound of contemporary nordic choral music with the polyphonic style of the 15th and 16th century. He has also composed chamber music and computer music in a flowing style often with a large number of repetetive simple melodic lines.
As a Musicologist Christian Hildebrandt holds a master’s degree in Musicology from University of Copenhagen. Master thesis on Asger Hamerik’s Choral Symphony – Life, Death and Immortality. His university studies mainly has focused on analytical aspects in contemporary and renaissance music. He has written papers about Guillaume Dufay, Orlando di Lasso, Vagn Holmboe, Per Nørgård and Hans Abrahamsen.
